You can try a car ferry to Santander or Bilbao and drive down.It''s about 600 miles and takes roughly 10 hours with stops.

thanks - i did look at ferries yesterday but it works out so expensive, seems we will just have to play a waiting game and hope our flight takes off, not too bothered if our flight is deferred to a later date, looking at weather out there at the moment, you''ve had a lot of rain and its not too warm!
